Chief Executive Officer – Donegal Airport


The role:Donegal Airport wish to recruit a Chief Executive Officer for their award-winning organisation. Having been voted the world's most scenic approach for the second year running, this is a fantastic opportunity to move into a senior leadership role within the aviation industry in the North West of Ireland.

Ensure Safety Management Systems are developed and maintained through active participation in the airport’s SMS and MOR (Mandatory Occurrence Reporting) reviews.

Identify and develop talented personnel as key Managers to develop operational standards and procedures and support the implementation as per aviation regulation.

Oversee the implementation of HR policies and staff recruitment.

Negotiate with airlines and other providers to develop and maintain services at the airport. Provide joint marketing initiatives and support the Marketing Manager to implement the Company Marketing Plan.

Ensure the development and implementation of the Company’s 5 Year Business Plan.

Identify and implement Capital Programmes to ensure navigation and ground equipment and airport facilities are procured and provided at a high quality and standard.

Make funding applications under the Regional Airports Programme to the Department of Transport, Tourism & Sport for capital and revenue grants. Maintain regular communication with the DTT&S to ensure approvals and grant drawdowns are obtained.

Regular communications with Údaras na Gaeltachta and Donegal Co. Council to maintain strong historical and ongoing support of the airport to demonstrate the value of the facility for social and economic development of the region.

Interact with Tourism and Business agencies and product providers to maximise their use of the airport services.

Keep the Board and Shareholders of the Company informed of airport activity and corporate issues in an ongoing basis through regular interaction with the Chairman and through the Board and Annual General meetings.

Support the implementation of accounting procedures including creditors, debtors, cashflow, banking, payroll, management accounts, budgets, etc.

Interact with the Company Auditor and Accountant to provide timely annual financial accounts and certification of grant claims.

Act as Company Secretary and deal with all legal matters including land acquisition, leases and local community relations.

The ideal candidate will have:

A relevant third level qualification

Minimum 5 years’ senior leadership experience with proven aviation, financial, analytical and ICT skills.

A thorough understanding of the aviation industry; regulations, safety standards and best practice in this area.

Proven commercial experience with ability to identify and develop new income opportunities.

Excellent interpersonal, communications, human resources and change management skills.

Strong corporate governance skills.

Strong Irish language skills and being able to communicate (verbally and written) through Irish.
